The early years of his professional career were spent back in NW England, where he was Assistant Organist at St. George's Church, under Arthur Rooke. Anna Hallett is 14 and has been playing the organ for four years and the piano for seven. After attending a 'Pipes and Pizza' workshop at Edington Priory in 2014, hosted by the Diocese of Salisbury's 'Pipe Up' scheme, she was hooked straightaway. She started lessons almost immediately with Chris Totney, working through the early ABRSM grades at an alarming rate and gaining valuable service playing experience. She is currently preparing for her Grade 7 exam, which she hopes to take this year. In addition, she has attended a number of organ courses and takes any opportunity she can to attend recitals. Last year, Anna became an RSCM Pipeline Organ Scholar, supported by St John's Church, Devizes, where she sings in the choir and plays with increasing regularity at services and concerts.

Anna is currently a Music Scholar at Stonar School, where she is studying ahead of her GCSE exams in 2021. In her spare time, she enjoys astronomy, film, reading and keeping her blog – – up to date. She has aspirations to go to university in Cambridge and become a Director of Music in a cathedral.

Concert Organ Recitals by Local Organists: Recital 5
Date: 3pm, Sunday 29th September 2019
Organist: Bill Tomkins

Bill Tomkins was born in the North of England but moved to the South West at an early age. His early music experiences were as a church chorister singing two fully choral services each Sunday with occasional weekday services as well. He also studied piano and later organ, the latter now being his first instrument. On leaving school he went to London as a trainee in a merchant overseas bank. After a few months he found the lure of music proved irresistible!

Bill was at one time the organist at GMC and we are delighted to welcome him back to rediscover our rebuilt Sweetland organ!
