Organ Concert & Talk by David Briggs

Event: Organ Concert & Talk by David Briggs
Date: 7.30pm, Friday 12th July, 2013

Friday 12th July, 2013 was a 'red-letter day' for concert goers at Gillingham Methodist Church since international organ recitalist David Briggs returned to the church to present one of his unmissable concerts. David was formerly organ scholar of King's College, Cambridge and Organist of Gloucester Cathedral and holds a reputation as one of the most fluent and expert improvisers in the world.

David has visited the church three times before to improvise for us to silent movies: in 2010 it was "The Phantom of the Opera", in 2011: "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and in 2012: "King of Kings". These were all amazing evenings!

This year he planned something a little different:-
He opened the evening with a short talk entitled, "The Life of a Concert Organist". Questions from the audience were welcomed. This was followed by an organ recital. In the second half, David improvised to a short Charlie Chaplin silent movie and to close the evening he took suggestions for improvisation themes from the audience!
