2015 Summer Organ Recitals



During August and September 2015 we held our twelfth series of Sunday afternoon Organ Recitals by Local Organists.
Details follow:-

Concert: Organ Recitals by Local Organists: Recital 1
Date: 3pm, Sunday 2nd August, 2015
Organist: Stephen Binnington (St.Gregory's, Marnhull)

Stephen Binnington was born in Beverley and studied the organ with Alan Spedding at Beverley Minster, before continuing his studies at the RCM, London. Formerly Director of Music of the Farrington Music School at Port Regis School, he now works as a freelance musician. For 16 years he was conductor of the Blandford Choral Society and is currently Organist & Choirmaster at St. Gregory’s Church, Marnhull.

Date: 3pm, Sunday 16th August, 2015
Organist: Peter Lattimer (Sturminster Newton PC)

Peter Lattimer was born and educated in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. After National Service, he read music at Oxford and was also the assistant organist in the Cathedral. His teaching career was spent firstly at Hurstpierpoint College and then for 30 years at Bryanston School. Since his retirement, he enjoys playing the organ at St Mary’s Church, Sturminster Newton and being involved with a multitude of other musical activities in the region.

Concert: Organ Recitals by Local Organists: Recital 3
Date: 3pm, Sunday 30th August, 2015
Organist: Sam Hanson (St.Peter's, Bournemouth)

Sam Hanson took up the organ in 1995, studying initially with Sean Tucker at Wimborne Minster. In January 2003 he achieved the ARCO with the highest marks in the organ playing section for candidates less than 19 years old. He has studied with Sarah Baldock and Thomas Trotter and is now Assistant Organist at St. Peter’s Church in Bournemouth.

Concert: Recital 4: The Svyati Duo
Date: 7.30pm, Friday 11th September, 2015
Organist: Julian Collings
Cellist: Rebecca Hepplewhite

Consisting of cellist Rebecca Hepplewhite and organist Julian Collings, the Svyati Duo takes their name from their first collaboration as cellist and conductor in a performance of Sir John Tavener's masterpiece Svyati for choir and cello solo. Since then they have established a tremendous rapport as the only regular cello and organ duo in the UK, gaining an outstanding reputation for their innovative concerts. They now pursue a busy concert schedule, taking their seldom heard instrumental combination to venues across the UK, Europe, Asia and the USA.
