2016 Summer Organ Recitals



During August and September 2016 we held our thirteenth series of Sunday afternoon Organ Recitals by Local Organists.
Details follow:-

Concert: Organ Recitals by Local Organists: Recital 1
Date: 3pm, Sunday 7th August, 2016
Organist: Gordon Amery (Gillingham Methodist Church)

Gordon Amery has been fascinated by the organ since he was very young and became organist at Irby Methodist Church on the Wirral when he was 13. After a long break from playing he became one of the organists at GMC in 2002, and much of his spare time is taken up in organising concerts such as this. He thought it was about time he performed again!

Organists: Robin Jackson & Maureen McAllister

We are delighted to welcome back husband and wife team Robin Jackson & Maureen McAllister. Robin and Maureen make a specialty of presenting a wide range of interesting and attractive music in their recital tours which have taken them up and down the country and across to Ireland. Date: 7.30pm, Saturday 3rd September, 2016
Organist: Philip Scriven (Concert Organist)

Philip Scriven is widely regarded as one of the finest organists of his generation, and is highly respected as a choral, orchestral and operatic conductor. He is currently Organist-in-Residence at Cranleigh School, co-founder and Principal Conductor of the Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra, and Assistant Conductor and Accompanist of the world-renowned Bach Choir, combining these posts with a freelance recital career which takes him all over the world.

Concert: Organ Recitals by Local Organists: Recital 4 - 'Toccata'
Date: 3pm, Sunday 11th September, 2016
Organist: Tobias Rihm

Tobias Rihm studied “historical keyboards”, solo chant and organ at the University of Wuerzburg, Bavaria before moving to the UK. He now lives in Iwerne Minster and works in the clinical sector. Since 2010 he has acted as an organist at local churches (Iwerne & Fontmel), either playing for services or for concerts.

Date: 3pm, Sunday 25th September, 2016
Organist: Anthony Burns-Cox

Anthony Burns-Cox studied with Dr Bernard Rose at Oxford, under whose influence and the wonderfully inspiring singing of his choir, the path of his future life became clear.... Church Music! An F.R.C.O., Anthony was Director of Music at St Albans School, before moving to Wales as Sub-Organist of Llandaff Cathedral and DOM in the Cathedral School. Later he was appointed Organist and Choirmaster of Romsey Abbey.
