Music at GMC2008 Silton Singers' Autumn ConcertThis concert by the Silton Singers’ was held at Music at GMC on Wednesday 26th November under the leadership of their new Musical Director Charles Hetherington. The programme included Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Handel’s Zadoc the Priest followed after the interval by Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. Frances Ferguson (soprano) and Bryony Purdue (mezzo-soprano) from Clayesmore School joined the choir as the soloists in the choral pieces and performed their own solos. THE SILTON SINGERS are an SATB choir and welcome singers of all ages and abilities – some of them are confident music readers, whilst others are not. The primary aim of the choir is to foster in all members, and their audiences, a love of choral music. The choir’s repertoire is varied, and they perform both sacred and secular music. Works performed recently include Faure “Requiem”, Stainer “Crucifixion”, Sanders “Reproaches”, Woods “Passion of St.Mark”, the Mozart “Coronation Mass” and Vivaldi “Credo”. They also put on themed concerts such as Shakespeare in Song and Songs from the Heart – a selection of English Romantic Partsongs. Gillingham Methodist Church is very grateful for their continued performances and loyal support of the Church. |
